HPB Presents: Dusty/Muted Colors

Boy am I squeezing this one in at the last minute!

Hobby Polish Bloggers, a fantastic group on Facebook for nail polish bloggers, has put together a link-up this month with the theme "Dusty/Muted Colors."  You all know how crazy I am about things like holo and flakies and everything sparkly shiny, so I got a little nervous thinking about what the hell I could do for my mani.  I mean, did I even own a "dusty/muted" polish??

Then my husband kindly reminded me it could still be sparkly, but be a dusty/muted color.  And that made it easier :P  Here were my weapons of choice:

And here is the mani I created:

The base polish is Mystery Holo #4 "Dangerous Woman" by Different Dimension stamped with "You Are My Symphony" by MPolish using images from The Pro XL plate 03 by MoYou London.  I fully admit I LOVE how this turned out :D  Loooooooooove it!

What do you think?  Would you consider this Dusty/Muted?  You can say no - you won't be able to see my dagger eyes glaring at you through my computer screen :P  I'm such a stinker. ^_^

Be sure to check out the other gorgeous manis in the link-up below!!

Octopus Party Nail Lacquer - New Colors and Restock!

***Press Sample***

I'd like to tell you of something really fun going on in my life, but alas, it is still Same Shit, Different Day.  So, on to polish!

Dave over at Octopus Party Nail Lacquer has come up with two new beautiful colors to release today, as well as a re-stock of a ton of other polishes (we'll get to that later).

The first of these two new colors: "You Got the Zest of Me"

Oh he's so witty with his polish names, that Dave!  You Got the Zest of Me is a lovely orange jelly holo with orange/green iridescent flakies throughout.  I am wearing two coats in the photos above with topcoat.  I tell you, I really thought this color might look like sick poop with my skin tone, but I was very happy to see that was not the case!

And the second new color: "Matcha Maker"

Yeah, I know you all know this one's my favorite, and I know you know why.  Matcha Maker is a divine green would-we-call-it-a-frost-? with an insane green/blue shimmer that makes it look like my nails are radioactive I LOVE IT.  There are some rainbow flakies throughout this polish, but they get a bit lost in the GLOWSTICK AWESOMENESS that is Matcha Maker.  I am wearing 2 coats in the photos above with no topcoat - it was shiny and perfect on its own.  I love it.  You must get this polish.

Speaking of, here's where you can!

Shop will be live today at 8am PST/11am EST and will be open until Sunday, May 1st at 12pm PST, 3pm EST.  Here is a list of eeeeeeeeverything re-stocking:

The Algae-atic Sea (new to the shop - from the Creme A La Mode Box)
Matcha Maker (new to the shop)
You Got the Zest of Me (new to the shop)

I have linked each of those to either one of my blog posts or one of the lovely Nichole's (Bedlam Beauty) to show you swatches of each polish, in case you can't remember/are curious as to what these each look like.

Will you be picking up anything else to go with Matcha Maker? (See what I did there?  I'm so cheeky.)

Polish was provided at a special discount in exchange for photos.  All experiences with the polish are my own and my disclosure remains 100% honest.

Silence Tally Mark Day

FELLOW WHOVIANS!!!

Today is an *awesome* day!!

You bet your booty I did a mani for this :D  I belong to a super fun and awesome group on Facebook called "Doctor Who And Nails" (you should totally join, we're Fantastic!) and we all decided to do a link-up for this awesome day!!!

For those of you who don't know what the bloody what I'm talking about, let me give you a brief run down.  "The Silence" is an alien race that you will only remember if you are looking at it - the second you turn away, you forget it (later on in the season, the main characters in the show began writing tally marks all over themselves whenever they saw The Silence).

On April 23rd, 2011, The Impossible Astronaut episode aired and this is when we first see The Silence.  So to honor that episode, we all created Tally Mark manis!  Here is mine!

For my mani, I used "Silence, Boy!" by Baroness X because it's ironic and also a DW themed polish, Bow Thermo topcoat by Dance Legend, and Pure Colors nail art brush #10 from What's Up Nails.

...What were we talking about again?

Hey look!!  Tally Mark Manis!! :D

First up is "Under the Sea" - here's the inspiration pic:

And here's her result:

Under the Sea is a lovely medium/periwinkle-leaning blue filled with small blue hexagonal glitters, large white dots, and a lovely purple shimmer.  Opaque in 2-3 coats, depending on how thick you apply, and I recommend a good topcoat to smooth things out.

The second polish in the duo is "Enchanted Forest" - here's the inspiration pic:

And here's her result:

Enchanted Forest is a gorgeous forest green loaded with brown, gold, and green glitters and flakes as well as a beautiful blue shimmer.  This one is opaque in 1-2 coats, depending on how thick you apply.  This one is also my favorite of the two :D  It's just so SPARKLY!!!

These two will only be available through the end of April, and ONLY if you are a member of the group!!  Join here: Crazy 4 Crellies!!  Once you join, click on the "Events" tab at the top of the page and click "join" for the April group custom to be able to purchase one or both of these polishes.  Here are some social links for Smokey Mountain Lacquers:

Born Pretty Store Review: Chameleon Polish

***Press Sample***

Yesterday was a crazy blustery day here, which means I inhaled a lot of tree sperm and am now suffering the allergy consequences.  Woo-hoo.

Recently, I received some fun products from Born Pretty Store to play with and review for you!  One of those products was a bottle of Chameleon Nail Polish Varnish #33

Born Pretty Store Chameleon Polish

Born Pretty Store Chameleon Polish

Now I know the website says "black base color needed," but I chose to use a different color instead.  Because I'm a rule breaker.

I used "Unwind" by Pipe Dream Polish as the base color.  I then used "Straight & Narrow" vinyls from Polished Vino to create the straight lines and painted the Chameleon polish inside on my ring and middle fingers.  I also used the Chameleon polish for the accent dots on my pointer and pinky fingers.  The gems connecting the two sections also came from Born Pretty Store, but those were purchased by me a while back.

Overall, regarding the polish, I found it actually built itself up to create the desired chameleon effect without needing that black base coat.  I'm wearing three thin layers in the photos, but I'm pretty sure that two thick coats would do it.  The only downside to the polish is the price - $10.99 for a 6ml bottle seems a bit hard to swallow, though it would be well spent, because the polish is quite great :)

You can purchase this polish HERE, and you can use my discount code below for 10% off your purchase! :D

Nail Art with DRK

I'm feeling like Super Poop today, so I'm gonna make this short and sweet :)  I decided to create a mani using several products from recent purchases that were too awesome to leave sitting on my shelf of nail art paraphernalia.  Here is the result!

Base Coat: "Joyful" by Parrot Polish (desk clear, not available in the shop)
Stamping Polish: "Sangria" by DRK
Holographic Accent Polish: "Rainbow Spill" by Polish Your Dreams
Glitter Accent Polish: "Wish" by Cupcake Polish

I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out :)  Honestly had no idea what I was going to do, just kind of went along with it as it happened.  What do you think of this mani?

Gothic Gala Lacquers "Conquer" and "Darkest Kiss"

***Press Sample***

This has most definitely 100% been the definition of my 2016 thus far.  Especially recently.  Lots of lots of road blocks.  I will go into more detail at a later time when shit gets sorted, but until then, please know I love and appreciate each and every one of my readers and followers, and thank you for sticking with me through my long absences!!

Let's get to some polish :)

Gothic Gala Lacquers sent me two polishes for swatching, and they are both pretty fantastic :D  Let's start with "Conquer:"

Sun Shot

Conquer is a beautiful gunmetal grey glitterbomb with blurple flakies throughout.  Opaque in 2-3 coats, depending on how thick you apply.  I am wearing two coats in the photos above with a topcoat of Smooth Me Over (also by Gothic Gala Lacquers).  It is inspired by Robin Roberts' Oscars gown, shown here:

The second polish is "Darkest Kiss:"

Darkest Kiss is a deep one-coater black matte polish with scattered holo throughout.  The ring finger in the photos above shows the polish without a topcoat.

Because Darkest Kiss was a one-coater, I was pretty sure that meant it would stamp well, and I was right!  A fellow GGL swatcher, Sparklepuss Polish, and I did a "twin" mani using Darkest Kiss over an older GGL color from 2014 "Remember, Remember."  We used heart images from Born Pretty Store Plate 50 (you can use my code MUMQ10 for 10% off your Born Pretty store order).

Here's the result:

And I couldn't just stop there, I really wanted to use Conquer in some way...So I came up with thism using Darkest Kiss as the base, Conquer as the accents, and a Rose vinyl from What's Up Nails;

You can pick up Conquer and Darkest Kiss at the Gothic Gala Lacquers store, linked below - don't forget to use my discount code MOMMRSANDME25 for 25% off your order :D

What do you think of these polishes?  Do you think she nailed Conquer?  Let me know in the comments below! <3

*For all swatches and nail art, I used OPI Nail Envy as my basecoat.  Here is the affiliate link where you can purchase it for a much cheaper price than drug and beauty stores:
